TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – You have probably heard this before: A new restaurant is about to open up and revive The Docks in east Toledo. It is a prime spot along the Maumee River, with a growing downtown just across the way. But restaurant after restaurant has left the popular spot at the Docks.
In China, development happens fast. A popular Internet video shows workers in Changsha, Hunan province, building a 15-story hotel in just six days. In Toledo — more than 12 years of planning, promises, and $43 million of public money spent — the east side property called the Marina District is apparently close to getting its first private development.
The forum brought representatives from 38 Italian firms interested in potentially doing business in Toledo and Ohio. It was arranged by 5 Lakes Global and an Italian counterpart, Gionata Lazzaretti of Still Italy, a business consulting firm in Correggio, Italy.
For representatives of 38 Italian companies in town for a three-day economic forum to explore business opportunities in the Toledo area, Tuesday began with greetings from local officials and organizers of the event and continued with tours of two prime local assets.
Dashing Pacific Group Ltd., which has already purchased the nearby Docks restaurant complex for $2.15 million, put its $3.8 million offer to buy the southern 69 acres at the Marina District in East Toledo back on the table for approval by Toledo City Council.
